Jeanne Bresciani

Jeanne Bresciani, M.A., M.A., I.M.A., Ph.D., hailed by the press as “the foremost interpreter of Duncan’s work,” “ the divine in motion” and “the keeper of the Duncan flame,” is the only dancer performing who combines the Isadora Duncan theatrical lineage: directly from Maria-Theresa Duncan; indirectly from Anna and Irma Duncan via Hortense Kooluris and Julia Levien; as well as from Elizabeth Duncan’s pedagogical lineage via childhood study and adult internship with Anita Zahn. Bresciani is recognized internationally as solo artist, educator and Duncan scholar and serves as Artistic Director and Director of Education for the Isadora Duncan International Institute, Inc., founded by Maria-Theresa Duncan and Kay Bardsley. The IDII, celebrating its 35th Anniversary in 2012—is based at the historic home of Modern Dance in America, The Harkness Dance Center of 92nd Street Y in New York City; at IDII’s, Tempio di danza, in High Falls, NY; and at the Skidmore College Department of Dance—where among these sites Bresciani leads as Founding Director, since their inception at New York University in 1987, three training programs—the first of their kind—in honor of Duncan’s legacy in the art of the dance, in education and in the mythic foundations underlying Duncan’s contribution. She directs two active performing companies, Jeanne Bresciani and the Isadora Duncan International Institute Dancers and the 92Y Isadora Teen Ensemble and leads Performance Study Tours Abroad entitled, Sacred Topographies: The Body and the Land.
